The memorial project fulfils a commitment made by the Telangana government following the celebrated poet’s demise last year.
Ande Sri, widely known for writing the Telangana state song, passed away on November 10, 2025. The Telangana government conducted his last rites with full police honours at NFC Nagar, Ghatkesar, recognising his contribution to Telangana’s cultural identity and literary heritage.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally participated in the funeral procession by carrying the poet’s bier. Following the last rites, he announced that the government would provide employment to a member of Ande Sri’s family and establish a Smriti Vanam to preserve the poet’s legacy.
Accordingly, the Chief Minister will now formally launch the construction of the memorial by laying the foundation stone for both the statue and the commemorative park.
The proposed memorial aims to honour Ande Sri’s lasting contribution to Telugu literature and the Telangana movement. His writings inspired generations and became closely associated with the state’s cultural identity. Therefore, the government considers the memorial an important tribute to one of Telangana’s most respected literary figures.
Officials are making arrangements for the Chief Minister’s visit, while local leaders, public representatives, writers, and admirers of the late poet are expected to attend the programme.
The Telangana government has reiterated its commitment to preserving the legacy of eminent personalities who contributed significantly to the state’s history, language, literature, and cultural heritage. (Maxim News)
