Cold wave | Hyderabad, Dec. 8: A sharp drop in temperatures continued across Sangareddy district, intensifying a cold wave that disrupted daily activity.
Although local panchayat elections generated considerable political heat, the weather remained severe, causing discomfort for voters. Many residents struggled to step outdoors as the chill deepened through the morning hours.
Officials reported here that Sangareddy recorded some of the lowest temperatures in the state. Kohir town registered the minimum at 6.6 degrees, while Nyalkal logged 7.5 degrees.
Likewise, the Jharasangam and Mogudampally areas recorded 7.6 degrees. As a result, residents, students and commuters faced significant hardship throughout the day.
Cold wave conditions affect public movement
Several localities reported continued declines in minimum temperatures. In the district, Zahirabad recorded 8.2 degrees, Nizampet 8.6 degrees and Gummadidala 8.7 degrees.
Sirgapur in Kadpal logged 9.0 degrees, and Kohir in Digwal registered 9.1 degrees. Zahirabad town recorded 9.2 degrees, while Pulkal logged 9.4 degrees.
Jinnaram, Sirgapur and Kangti registered 9.6 degrees, and Raikode saw 9.8 degrees. Other areas, including Nagaligidda, Narayankhed, Hathnoor, Kandi, Choutkur, Manoor and Kondapur, recorded temperatures above 10.2 degrees.
Cold wave conditions also hindered election campaigning. Sarpanch candidates reported difficulty visiting villages due to low visibility and discomfort.
Commuters faced challenges on early morning routes as vehicles moved slowly in the cold. Despite steady public activity, turnout in some areas remained low due to harsh weather.
Medical professionals advised people to stay alert and follow essential precautions during the cold spell. They emphasised safe clothing, warm shelter and timely medical attention for vulnerable groups. The cold wave persisted even as Patancheru recorded 14.6 degrees, marking a clear contrast with the sharp fall in Kohir.
