Congress asks police to act tough against illegal financiers in Old City

Hyderabad, April 3 (Maxim News): A delegation of senior leaders of Congress party met Hyderabad City Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy on Monday seeking stern action against illegal financiers operating in the Old City of Hyderabad.

The delegation comprised of TPCC Minorities Department chairman Khaja Fakhruddin, GHCC Minorities Dept chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, TPCC Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin, Farooq Quadri, Mohammed Meraj and Akheel Ahmed.

“While we appreciate the efforts made by the City Police so far in curbing the activities of illegal financiers, but those steps were proving to be too little when compared to the magnitude of menace that is prevalent in the Old City. The illegal financiers have penetrated into almost every household of poor and middle class people in the Old City and have trapped every small and average businessman or trader. They are exploiting the poor using coercive methods and have been practicising economic slavery,” the Congress leaders told the Police Commissioner.

Speaking to media persons later, Abdullah Sohail said that the atrocities of illegal financiers have increased to the extent that in few cases poor people preferred death over their harassment and torture. Citing an instance, he said on March 30 in Falaknuma Police Station limits, one person Md Jahangir, 35, of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar of Nawab Sahab Kunta, committed suicide allegedly due to the harassment by two financiers Zaheer and Zameer. Although the Falaknuma Police registered a case under Section 306 against Zaheer and Zameer, but so far no action has been taken against them. “Both the accused are active members of a local political party and therefore, they are trying to influence the local police using their political clout,” he said.

Abdullah Sohail said that the Congress party has urged the Police Commissioner to take serious action in the Jahangir case and also ensure that no one, irrespective of their political or social stature, is spared if they found guilty of violating the law. “Stern and exemplary action against the illegal financiers is highly essential if the Hyderabad City Police really wish to root out the menace from the city,” he said.
