Congress candidate Sameer condemns Amit Shah’s divisive remarks in Hyderabad roadshow

Hyderabad, May 2: Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) President and Congress candidate for the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, Mohammed Waliullah Sameer, has strongly condemned the remarks made by Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah during his recent roadshow in Hyderabad. Shah’s speech, which called for the “liberation” of Hyderabad from “Razakars,” revived a divisive narrative based on events that occurred more than 70 years ago – events that neither Shah nor the majority of Hyderabad’s current population experienced firsthand.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Waliullah Sameer criticised Shah’s use of the term “Razakars” to incite communal tension, calling it irresponsible and misleading. “None of us have seen or experienced the Razakars. They ceased to exist in September 1948 when Hyderabad merged with the Indian Union. This rhetoric distorts history and diverts attention from the real issues facing Hyderabad today,” he said.

Waliullah Sameer noted that Amit Shah’s roadshow in Hyderabad’s Old City was a “flopshow“. He criticised the Home Minister for failing to address the problems confronting the people of Hyderabad. He pointed out that the Old City is home to people from various communities – Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, and others – who share common issues that require practical solutions. Yet, Shah’s brief address failed to mention these pressing concerns.

As a Congress candidate, my focus is on addressing the real grievances of the common people. Our agenda emphasises development, job creation, education, healthcare, and other key issues that impact the daily lives of everyone in Hyderabad. Political campaigns should prioritise these issues, not promote divisive rhetoric designed to provoke fear and division,” Sameer remarked.

Waliullah Sameer expressed disappointment at the BJP’s reliance on inflammatory tactics instead of engaging in meaningful dialogue about the needs and aspirations of Hyderabad’s citizens. “Such rhetoric sows discord and distracts from the genuine issues that require our collective attention,” he added.

He alleged that Amit Shah’s visit was primarily intended to benefit MIM President and candidate Asaduddin Owaisi. “Amit Shah’s provocative speech bolsters a Hindu-Muslim narrative, which aids MIM in winning elections. BJP and MIM appear to be feeding off each other’s divisive rhetoric, as MIM, in return, helps BJP by not contesting the Gosha Mahal seat in Assembly elections or other crucial seats in the Lok Sabha elections,” he asserted.

Waliullah Sameer urged the voters to reject divisive narratives and focus on real issues. “Amit Shah’s fascination with the term ‘Razakars’ only fuels unnecessary conflict. Instead of falling into the trap of such nonsensical rhetoric, we should work towards harmony and progress. Two generations in the Old City have been lost due to this Hindu-Muslim rhetoric. The historical references to ‘Razakars’ might help MIM and BJP win elections, but they do nothing to address people’s needs,” he said.

As a Congress candidate, I’m committed to addressing the genuine concerns of the common people. Congress is devoted to promoting harmony and development. I call on voters to reject divisive narratives and join us in building a better future for Hyderabad,” he appealed. (Maxim News)
