Congress demands Centre to withdraw Agnipath scheme

Hyderabad, June 17 (Maxim News): The Congress party today demanded that the Union government immediately withdraw the Agnipath scheme launched by it in the wake of countrywide agitations against it. It also demanded that the Centre pay compensation of ₹1 crore to the family members of armed forces’ job aspirant Rakesh, who died in the gun shooting of police at Secunderabad railway station. It made it clear that the Centre was responsible for the death of Rakesh.

In a statement, TPCC publicity committee chairman and former MP Madhu Yaski Goud alleged that the Agnipath scheme was meant for privatising the Indian Army. Expressing shock at the death of Rakesh, he said the Central government should pay an ex gratia of ₹1 crore to the family members of Rakesh immediately.

He alleged that the Central government came up with the Agnipath scheme in order to abolish one-rank-one-pension scheme of the armed forces. He alleged that the Central government was planning to reduce its expenditure on the armed forces by privatising the military force and bringing down the salaries of the military personnel. He said the Congress was completely opposing the scheme of the Central government. He said the youth in the country was waiting for the army recruitment since the spread of corona virus. He said the scheme was meant to recruit the youth on contract basis instead of regular basis. Yaski also condemned the lathi-charge and police firing against the agitating youth at the Secunderabad railway station. (Maxim News)
