Congress Focus on Sarpanch Elections; Operation ‘Kanduva’ Ready if Opponents Win
Congress | Hyderabad, Dec. 11: Tensions are running high within the ruling party as MLAs intensify their efforts to secure maximum Sarpanch seats in their respective constituencies.
With the first phase of elections underway, MLAs are closely tracking village-wise prospects and assessing where their candidates hold strong chances of victory.
Villages where the BRS is putting up stiff competition have become a major focus area. In such locations, ruling party leaders are reportedly extending financial assistance and logistical support to ensure an edge for their preferred candidates.
Although Sarpanch elections are officially non-party-based, major political parties are actively backing candidates on the ground. Congress MLAs, in particular, are keen on securing the highest number of seats to avoid loss of face within their constituencies.
Concerns also loom large that a poor outcome could strengthen the opposition at the segment level.
To counter this, several MLAs have been camping in their constituencies for over a week. They are paying special attention to weaker villages and extending covert financial support to economically vulnerable candidates to boost their chances of winning.
Congress | If Opponents Win, Operation ‘Kanduva’ Will Be Activated
Sources suggest that MLAs have already identified villages where opposition-backed candidates are likely to win. A detailed plan is in place to bring these newly elected Sarpanchs into the Congress fold immediately after the results.
A dedicated team has reportedly been formed for this purpose. As per the strategy, newly elected Sarpanchs will be taken to the MLA’s camp office on the same day—or the next morning—and formally inducted into the party by offering the Congress scarf (‘Kanduva’).
This behind-the-scenes exercise has sparked intense political discussions across constituencies, as the ruling party gears up to retain dominance at the grassroots level through both electoral strategy and post-poll manoeuvres.
