Congress leader Shahid Siddiqui Writes To CM Revanth

In a heartfelt letter, Shahid Siddiqui congratulated the Chief Minister on the party’s resounding victory in the state assembly elections and the securing 8 parliamentary seats, attributing these successes to Reddy’s exemplary leadership.

The appeal follows a recent judgment by the Telangana High Court Chief Justice Alok Aradhe which declared the language-based criteria for media accreditation as arbitrary and a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution of India. The High Court’s decision came in response to a petition by the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Union wherein counsel Vivek Jain appeared as Amicus Curiae, which highlighted the discrimination faced by Urdu journalists under the current policy framework.
The senior Congress leader emphasized that Urdu journalists have played a crucial role in the Telangana movement and were instrumental in exposing the governance shortcomings of the BRS party. The letter urged the state government to revise its guidelines for media accreditation to ensure equitable treatment of journalists, regardless of the language of their publication.

The High Court’s ruling underscored the need for fair, rational, and reasonable criteria in granting accreditation, suggesting factors such as circulation numbers or the number of pages in a publication as more appropriate benchmarks. Shahid Siddiqui expressed confidence in CM Revanth Reddy’s commitment to justice and equality, hoping for swift action to foster a more inclusive and fair environment for journalism in Telangana.
The letter concluded with a call for immediate steps to accord Urdu language journalists the same rights and opportunities as their counterparts in other languages, aligning with the High Court’s directive to comply with rational and reasonable standards.
