Congress leaders visit Bibi Ka Alawa, Offer ‘Dhatti’ to Bibi Ka Alam

Hyderabad, July 24: A delegation of Congress leaders led by Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) President Sameer Waliullah visited Bibi Ka Alawa in Dabirpura of Old City of Hyderabad on Monday. The delegation presented traditional ‘dhatti‘ and ‘nazrana’ to the Bibi Ka Alam on behalf of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).

The delegation included TPCC Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin, General Secretary Zaheer Lalalni, Hyderabad Minorities Dept Chairman Arshad Shaik, HCC General Secretary Mujtabad Abedi, Charminar constituency Incharge Mujeebullah Shareef, Osman Mohammed Khan, Youth Congress leader Aslam Shareef, Mirza Askari Ali Baig, Ali, Dilawar Hussain and others.

Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Sameer Waliullah said that the Congress leaders have offered ‘dhatti’ to the Bibi Ka Alam as part of a 400-year-old tradition of Hyderabad to join the mourning for the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his followers in Karbala. He said that the Congress leaders also prayed for the well-being of the entire humanity.

Sameer Waliullah strongly condemned the BRS Govt for the delay in releasing funds to the Ashur Khanas and other arrangements for the ‘Moharram Juloos‘. He said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has been neglecting the Old City, minorities, and trying to disrupt their religious events by not releasing funds. He said that the observance of Moharram mourning is as old as Hyderabad. Besides the Central procession from Bibi Ka Alawa in Hyderabad, Moharram processions are taken out in various parts of the city, attracting both Shia and non-Shia Muslims and sometimes people from other religious backgrounds as well, as a symbol of communal harmony.

He pointed out that CM KCR visited the Bibi Ka Alam only once in his two-term as the Chief Minister. He made several promises on his first and last visit and did not fulfill any of them. He said that the Congress party was all set to return to power in the next Assembly election and it would make all arrangements to restore the significance of Moharram mourning in Hyderabad. He demanded that elaborate arrangements be made for the Yaum-e-Ashura and procession on the 10th of Moharram falling on July 29. He said that it was the duty of all citizens to respect, protect, and practice the centuries-old tradition which provided a distinct identity to Hyderabad. (Maxim News)
