India Assures Bangladesh OF 5,000 Tons Of Diesel Supply Through Pipeline

Delhi/Hyderabad, Mar 10 (Maxim News): India has taken a major step towards alleviating the fuel crisis in neighbouring Bangladesh. India on Tuesday supplied 5,000 tonnes of diesel through the Parbatipur border pipeline as part of a bilateral agreement between the two countries. Bangladesh has signed an agreement to import 1.8 lakh (1,80,000) tonnes of diesel from India annually through the pipeline. Under this, Bangladesh will have to take at least 90,000 tonnes of fuel every six months.

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Chairman Mohammad Rezanur Rahman said that the current shipment is part of the agreement. The Bangladesh government hopes to import enough diesel for six months in the next two months. There are currently concerns about the storage of diesel and petrol in Bangladesh. There are reports that some traders are illegally storing fuel and creating an artificial shortage in the market. Due to this, the common people are facing difficulties.

Government actions:

Supply Limits: To curb illegal hoarding, the Ministry of Energy has imposed limits on supply based on vehicle categories.
Mobile Court Raids: A ‘Mobile Court’ campaign has been launched to take action against petrol pumps violating norms.
Magistrate Checks: Executive Magistrates conducted surprise raids in various areas of Dhaka. During these checks, some stations were found to be operating against norms.

This fuel supply from India will give a boost to Bangladesh’s economy and transportation sector. Especially since the fuel is sent through pipelines across the border, not only will transportation costs be reduced, but there will be no disruption to supply. “We will take strict action against those who hoard illegally. The supply from India will solve the fuel shortage in the country,” officials are confident. This bilateral cooperation will not only strengthen the relations between the two countries, but also ensure energy security. (Maxim News)
