Congress plans padayatra, seminars to connect with minorities in Telangana

Hyderabad, March 13: The Minorities Department of All India Congress Committee (AICC) has prepared a three-month-long strategy to regain the support of minorities for the Congress party in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

According to TPCC Minorities Dept Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, the strategy was discussed during the National Executive meeting of the AICC Minorities Dept held in Delhi on Sunday which was attended by AICC leader Koppula Raju, AICC Minorities Dept Chairman & MP Imran Pratapgarhi, Telangana Incharge Farhan Azmi, AICC leaders Pramod Tiwari, Supriya Shrinate and other senior leaders.

“We have decided to conduct several programmes across Telangana State to connect with the minorities. Besides exposing the failures of the BRS Govt in implementing minorities’ welfare schemes, we will also highlight how Congress empowered the minorities during its regime,” Abdullah Sohail said in a media statement on Monday.

He informed that in addition to Hyderabad district, various programmes like padayatra, seminars, corner meetings and public meetings would be organised in 22 Assembly constituencies with a significant population of minorities. He said that the final schedule of those programmes would be announced after the holy month of Ramzan. Meanwhile, a campaign on social media would be launched to stay connected with the minorities during the month of Ramzan.

Abdullah Sohail said that the TPCC Minorities Dept would conduct meetings to highlight issues like unemployment among minorities, lack of housing, closure of minority colleges, delay in scholarships to minority students, protection of Wakf properties and Urdu language, pending applications of Shaadi Mubarak, the safety of religious structures, non-spending of budget on minorities’ welfare and vanishing Muslim representation from officials institutions.

The Congress leader said that the Congress Minorities Departments in all districts were being strengthened. He said all vacancies were being filled and active youth were being given important responsibilities. He said the organisation would be strengthened during the month of Ramzan to launch a full-fledged campaign after the Eid-ul-Fitr. (Maxim News)
