Congress To Launch Chhatron Ki Goonj Campaign, Seeks Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation

Hyderabad: The Congress will launch a nationwide campaign titled Chhatron Ki Goonj on June 25, with press conferences planned in 28 cities, including Hyderabad, while demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over what it called the Centre’s failure to reform the education sector.

Announcing the campaign, the party said it would use the outreach program to raise concerns over the condition of India’s education system and push for a broader national debate on education reforms, student welfare and employability. Congress alleged that the Narendra Modi government had weakened public education through privatisation, centralisation and ideological interference.

In a statement issued by AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, the party said the education crisis in India was no longer limited to unemployment, but had widened into a deeper challenge of employability, with students not being adequately prepared for future academic and professional demands.

The party said the initiative would mark the beginning of a nationwide conversation on creating a modern, inclusive and future ready education system.

Congress leaders including Pawan Khera, Varsha Gaikwad, Rajeev Shukla, Priyank Kharge, Gaurav Gogoi, Supriya Shrinate, Kanhaiya Kumar and Srinivas BV are expected to lead the campaign in different regions. The Congress has accused the BJP led Centre of failing to equip young people with the skills required for a changing economy. It said education policy must be aligned with student aspirations and national development goals rather than ideological control.

The demand for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation forms a central part of the campaign, with the Congress holding him politically responsible for what it described as long standing neglect and mismanagement in the education sector. The party is expected to sharpen its attack on the government in the run up to the June 25 campaign events.
