Congress women leaders visit maternity hospital, slam govt for “horrible” conditions
Hyderabad: Alleging that the state government was not responding to women’s deaths in maternity hospitals, Congress women leaders have stated that the infrastructure in the government hospitals were in hopeless condition. “There were no similarities between the government’s statements about hospitals and the existing realities in hospitals. They dared the Health Minister to do “labour work” in the Petla Burju hospital if he was sincere then the Minister knows the problems of the patients at the same time.
Women Congress leaders DK Aruna, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Padmavathi, Akula Lalitha, Banda Karthika Reddy, Nerella Sharada and others visited Petla Burju hospital located in Old City and Koti Maternity Hospital today. They enquired hospital superintendent about women’s deaths in the hospital and the facilities in the hospital. The leaders were also inquired the relatives of the patients about the conditions prevailed in the hospital.
Speaking to the media later, former minister and Gadwal MLA DK Aruna alleged that the non-appointment of hospital staff itself shows the negligent attitude of the state government. There was no blood bank in the Petla Burju hospital. It was shocking that only six doctors were attending to 600 patients, she wondered and asked the government to tell as to why it was not recruiting doctors. The government has to concentrate on the government hospitals stopping mere talk. It was shameful on the part of the government that itself sending the patients to the private hospitals. Demanding the state government to set up blood bank in the hospital premises immediately, Aruna stated that the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has to fell shy while seeing the corrupt practices prevailed in the hospital.
Former Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy has asked the Health Minister C Laxma Reddy, who has ample time for party plenary and public meeting, to tell whether he didn’t have time to visit the hospitals. The government left the problems to the wind, she said and suggested the Chief Minister, who was stating that there were no problems in the hospitals, to ask the patients whether there were any problems in the hospital or not. The Chief Minister and Ministers were not in a position to see the postpartum deaths in the hospital situated at the center of the city. “People doesn’t need golden Telangana but they needed lively Telangana”, she said.
The Health Minister was not in a position to see the corruption in the hospitals and the staff harassing the patients for money. “It is shameful on the part of the state government for stating that the state is corruption free”, she said and pointed out that the problems in the maternity hospitals would have known if there was a women in the state cabinet. The Ministers will be known if they visited hospitals instead of roaming in bulb cars.
Demanding the state government to suspend the superintendent of the Koti Government Hospital immediately, Sharada warned the state government that the Congress party would wage movement in case the government failed to initiate action against the superintendent. She also demanded the Health Minister to tender resignation owning the responsibility on deaths.
