Cop Gets Injured While Attempting To Nab Biker Speeding Past Barricade
A constable, who attempted to chase a motorcyclist for violating lockdown regulations, is in a critical condition after he met with an accident during the chase at Bahadurpally on Saturday.
The constable, Ramchandraiah, 32, from Dundigal police station, was on duty along with five other constables at a check-post in Bahadurpally. On seeing the police, the motorcyclist while coming towards the check-post suddenly turned and started speeding. Ramachandraiah, who did not have his bike with him, immediately called one Krishna Murthy, who resides near the check-post, and got on to the latter’s bike as a pillion rider. The two gave chase to the other motorcyclist, who sped towards the Balanagar-Narsapur highway.
Murthy and Ramachandraiah did not give up and were on his trail when their bike skidded due to debris lying on the roadside near the Katta Maisamma temple. According to the police, there was a sharp curve and both the constable and Murthy were thrown off the bike as it skidded. Ramachandraiah hit his head on a roadside boulder and suffered severe head injuries. Police officials first rushed him to a private hospital in Suraram and later shifted to a corporate hospital in Somajiguda, where his condition was stated to be critical.
