CWG 2026: India Eyes Boxing Gold Rush On August 1

Glasgow, August 1: India will have one of its busiest medal days at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026 on Saturday, with 10 boxers, led by Lovlina Borgohain, competing in the finals. The Indian contingent will also chase medals in athletics, judo, para athletics, track cycling and bowls.

India has already secured at least 10 boxing medals after all its semifinalists advanced to the finals, marking the country’s best ever boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games.

Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain will headline the boxing finals in the women’s 75kg category. She will be joined by Sakshi Chaudhary, Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal, all competing for gold.

In athletics, Gulveer Singh will aim to add a second medal after winning silver in the men’s 10,000m. He will compete in the men’s 5,000m final. Olympian Priyanka Goswami will also target gold in the women’s 10,000m race walk after claiming silver at Birmingham 2022.

India’s medal hopes also include Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran in the men’s triple jump, while Dev Meena and Kuldeep Kumar will compete in the men’s pole vault final. The mixed 4x400m relay team will also be in action.

The judo contingent will look to continue its impressive campaign after India’s first Commonwealth Games judo gold medals. Unnati Sharma, Harsh Tokas, Karanjit Singh Maan and Inunganbi Takhellambam will compete across multiple weight categories.

In bowls, Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar will face England in a crucial men’s pairs match with a place in the semifinals at stake. Medal opportunities are also available in para athletics and track cycling.
