DGP Shivdhar Reddy said the campaign aims to reduce cyber crime incidents across Telangana by creating self-awareness among citizens. He explained that cyber crimes have grown rapidly in the past decade, and it was essential to take preventive measures on a war footing. “Cyber crime is not a simple problem but a serious social issue,” he said, adding that criminals use technology to exploit people through phone calls, social media, and online dealings.

The DGP highlighted that women, elderly people, and homemakers are particularly vulnerable as they are targeted when alone. He revealed that cyber patrolling and other preventive actions have been implemented to curb cases, resulting in fewer victims this year compared to last. Encouraging community participation, he said, “If one person tells ten, and ten tell twenty, it will become a huge movement.” He urged families to ensure that there is at least one ‘Cyber Simbha’ in each home to spread awareness and protect society.

Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V. C. Sajjanar said cyber criminals are exploiting human greed and fear. He pointed out that people within the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits lose up to one crore rupees every day to online frauds. He said the ongoing campaign aims to build awareness at the grassroots level and help people recognize fraud attempts before falling victim. Sajjanar also reminded the public to be cautious and never share OTPs, passwords, or banking details. He advised using strong passwords and avoiding sharing personal information on social media.

He further guided citizens that victims of cyber crime should immediately call 1930 or file complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) to seek help. During the event, he administered a ‘Cyber Pledge’ to participants. Senior police officials, including Additional CP (Crimes) M. Srinivas, Joint CP (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, and DCP (Cyber Crime) Dhara Kavitha, attended the program along with Zonal DCPs, colony residents, and volunteers.
