Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued unsettled weather across parts of India following Cyclone Arnab’s landfall along the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts. Rain, thunderstorms and strong surface winds remain concerns in several regions.
The very severe cyclonic storm crossed the coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam during the early hours of October 28. It brought sustained winds of 125 to 135 kmph, with gusts reaching 150 kmph.
The system subsequently weakened as it moved inland. However, its remnants continued to influence weather conditions across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and neighbouring states.
According to the IMD’s latest available updates, rain warnings remain in place for several regions. The department has also forecast further rainfall over parts of eastern India.
Rain Alerts Continue Across Several States
The IMD’s October 30 forecast includes warnings for thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Heavy rain is also forecast in parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh on November 1, followed by very heavy rain on November 2 and 3.
Rayalaseema may also experience thunderstorms and strong winds over the coming days. Residents should monitor official weather bulletins for district-specific warnings and possible changes.
Meanwhile, the remnants of Cyclone Arnab have raised concerns about further rainfall across eastern and central India. Parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh experienced heavy rain during the cyclone’s passage.
The IMD had also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh on October 29 and 30.
Andhra Pradesh Continues to Assess Cyclone Impact
Cyclone Arnab brought damaging winds and heavy rainfall to coastal Andhra Pradesh during landfall. Several areas experienced fallen trees, transport disruptions and damage to infrastructure.
The IMD issued a flash flood risk warning covering 13 Andhra Pradesh districts and Yanam following the cyclone’s passage. The warning highlighted risks from heavy rainfall and possible flooding.
Authorities have continued monitoring vulnerable areas and coordinating relief measures. Residents in low-lying locations should remain alert to local advisories and avoid flooded roads.
The cyclone also affected Odisha, where authorities evacuated residents from vulnerable locations and deployed emergency response teams. Heavy rainfall and strong winds posed additional challenges for southern districts.
Although Arnab has weakened, its remnants and associated weather conditions may continue to produce rainfall. People should follow official IMD forecasts and local administration instructions.
