Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha stated, “Today at 6.52 pm a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light. An explosion happened in that vehicle and, due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged. Some people have died and some have been injured. The situation is being monitored. Home Minister (Amit Shah) called us… information is being shared with him…” Officials are prioritizing medical care for the injured, rushing ambulances to the site and securing the area as forensic experts prepare to collect evidence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed by Home Minister Amit Shah following the incident, and expressed grief over the tragic loss of life, praying for the recovery of the injured. Meanwhile, security measures have been tightened not only across Delhi but also at the Indo-Nepal border, with Border Security Force personnel and intelligence agencies closely monitoring movement.

The nature of the blast remains under investigation, but its timing closely follows a major raid conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Police in Faridabad. Acting on intelligence from arrested doctor Adil Rather, authorities confiscated 350 kg of ammonium nitrate and other explosive materials from properties linked to medical professional Muzammil Shakeel. Police discovered 12 suitcases filled with explosives, plus detonators and timers, highlighting the potential scale of the threat.

The investigation further uncovered the involvement of an unnamed woman doctor, whose car was found carrying an assault rifle and ammunition. Additional weapons were discovered at the GMC in Anantnag, connecting the incident to banned terrorist outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. Police say the arrests have broken an inter-state and transnational terror module, with eight suspects, including Rather, Shakeel, and the woman doctor, now in custody.
