CSTT Workshop On Learners’ Glossary Begins At MANUU

  • Five-day CSTT workshop at MANUU focuses on English-Urdu learners’ glossary for social sciences

A five-day workshop on the preparation of the Learners’ Glossary of Social Sciences (English-Urdu) began on Monday at the Department of Political Science, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad. The event is organized by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and will run from November 10 to 14, 2025.

The inaugural session featured Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar of MANUU, as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Waseemur Rahman, IRS, attended as the Guest of Honour. In his address, Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed emphasized the academic importance of dictionaries, stating that technical and specialized glossaries play a vital role in supporting students and scholars. He said the workshop would contribute significantly to creating technical terms in the Urdu language, which would benefit candidates preparing for competitive examinations in Urdu medium.

Dr. Shahzad Ahmad Ansari, Assistant Director, CSTT, explained the objectives and activities of the Commission, particularly its efforts to develop glossaries in multiple Indian languages. He stated that the Learners’ Glossary of Social Sciences would strengthen bilingual understanding for students and researchers, supporting inclusive and accessible education. Dr. Waseemur Rahman noted that such academic dictionaries were invaluable for candidates appearing in administrative and academic examinations. “This glossary may prove highly relevant for preparation of different competitive examinations, administration and academics,” he said.

Welcoming the participants, Prof. A. Nageswara Rao, Head of the Department of Political Science, underlined the significance of learners’ dictionaries in social sciences. He said the glossary will not only enrich Urdu academic resources but also encourage linguistic collaboration in higher education. The session was anchored by Dr. Md. Khurshid Alam, while Prof. Afroz Alam proposed the vote of thanks.

The workshop marks another milestone in MANUU’s academic initiatives aimed at bridging language barriers in higher studies. By developing the English-Urdu Learners’ Glossary of Social Sciences, CSTT and MANUU aim to enhance accessibility and precision in knowledge dissemination across disciplines.
