Delhi Building Collapse | New Delhi, Oct. 7: One person died and eight others were rescued after a five storey residential building collapsed in Delhi’s New Seemapuri on Wednesday afternoon.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched a joint search and rescue operation. Some people were still feared trapped under the debris.
The building stood on a plot measuring around 25 square yards. The collapse also partially damaged two adjoining buildings.
A minor’s body was recovered from the debris, according to police. The rescued injured persons included a child aged around three years.

The DFS received the collapse call at around 3:30 pm and sent four fire tenders to the site. NDRF teams were also called in to assist with the rescue operation.
The injured were taken to the GTB Hospital emergency department, which is currently functioning from the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital campus.
Residents told Hindustan Times that the building was owned by Mohammed Anwar. His family reportedly lived across several floors of the structure.
Residents also alleged that demolition work at an adjoining building had been underway for several days. They claimed the work may have affected the collapsed structure. The cause of the collapse has not yet been officially established.
The incident comes a month after a multi storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan during repair work. The September incident killed seven people and injured several others.
Following that incident, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi intensified enforcement against dangerous buildings, unauthorised construction and violations of building rules.
The search and rescue operation in Seemapuri is continuing as authorities work to determine whether anyone remains trapped.
