Delhi/Hyderabad, Feb 8 (Maxim News): The Aam Aadmi Party is headed towards a crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections. Many experts are surprised by these results. However, experts say that behind this defeat, there are some other reasons, including the comments and decisions of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. Let’s see what those reasons are.
AAP first emerged as a party of the common man. In that order, Kejriwal started his political career with a simple lifestyle under the slogan “Aam Aadmi”. he wore a cotton shirt, a small flat, and traveled in a cheap car. With this, he gradually gained popularity among the people.
But Kejriwal’s journey gradually changed. it can be said that many things, including the construction of the luxurious Sheesh mahal worth Rs. 40 crore, increased the disappointment of the voters with him. People expected the Aam Aadmi Party to work for the common man. But the huge wasteful expenditure turned out to be the opposite.
Kejriwal initially spoke out against corruption. But his name came into the limelight in the liquor scam case. Although he tried to cover up with his words through this case, his actions showed a difference. After the new policy of ‘buy one, get one free’ on liquor bottles, the Arvind kejriwal government was accused of turning Delhi into a city of alcohol lovers. Due to this, the trust of the people in the party gradually eroded.
Arvind Kejriwal’s campaign on Yamuna pollution has also backfired. Despite repeated promises to clean the Yamuna, the river remains polluted. AAP’s 2015 manifesto promised to clean the river 100%, but it has not been fulfilled.
Kejriwal made many promises, but failed to implement them. These damaged his credibility among the voters. When AAP first emerged in 2013 as an alternative to Congress and BJP, it made key promises. But except for a few freebies, most of them were not implemented. Many other promises like water connections and reducing air pollution were not fulfilled. The Employment Budget 2023 also failed to fulfill the promises related to job creation.
Kejriwal’s responses to allegations of money laundering in the Goa and Gujarat elections also raised questions among voters. There were concerns that these controversies could further damage Kejriwal’s leadership in the future. This too can be said to have led to a gradual shift in voters.
The opposition to the government also played a key role in the big blow to the AAP government in the Delhi elections. Although the AAP achieved significant gains in Delhi from 2015 to 2020, it performed only in sectors like health and education during its first two terms. In the process, many unfulfilled promises, including better air quality, troubled Delhi voters. Due to this, voters saw many allegations as excuses during the last 10 years of AAP rule.
