CAIT’s data revealed that the goods sector led the market with sales amounting to ₹5.40 lakh crore, underscoring renewed demand for retail products nationwide. The services sector also recorded significant activity, registering sales worth ₹65,500 crore. Traders said the surge in shopping reflected growing confidence among consumers and a broader recovery in market activity following months of cautious spending.

There was also a notable jump in sales of traditional festive items. During Dussehra and Diwali, around 1,100 metric tonnes of sweets valued at ₹46 crore were sold across the country. Confectionery sellers said demand began rising weeks ahead of Diwali and peaked during the five-day celebrations.

Meanwhile, the automobile industry also benefited from the festive mood. Tata Motors announced robust sales figures, stating that over one lakh cars were sold during the Dussehra and Diwali period. The number underscores how consumer sentiment and promotional offers combined to lift the auto sector’s performance during one of India’s busiest retail seasons.

Overall, Diwali 2025 cemented its position as a high point for traders and manufacturers alike. With strong participation across major sectors, the festival reaffirmed its importance as one of India’s largest economic events of the year.
