Hyderabad: The EAGLE Force on Thursday arrested four persons for allegedly operating a ganja peddling network in Hyderabad and seized 14 kg of the contraband.
Police also seized an air gun, six cars and seven motorcycles from the accused.
The accused were identified as Bolla Kiran Kumar, Bolla Durga Prasad and Bolla Kamalakar. Police said another accused was also arrested in connection with the network.
According to EAGLE officials, the accused allegedly sourced ganja from Odisha and operated a contactless delivery network from Balanagar.
The force received information about the network through the 1908 helpline around two months ago. Investigators subsequently traced the suspects using WhatsApp chats and phone numbers.
Police said Kiran allegedly started the operation in 2022. He reportedly accepted orders and payments online before sending customers the location and photographs of parcels placed at secluded spots.
EAGLE Identifies 203 Suspected Ganja Consumers
The contactless system allegedly allowed suppliers and customers to avoid meeting directly.
During the investigation, police identified 203 suspected consumers. Drug tests were conducted on around 100 people, of whom 72 reportedly tested positive.
Among those who tested positive were six students, including a student from the Institute of Aeronautical Engineering in Dundigal.
Police said the accused allegedly resisted the raid. Two suspects reportedly set a dog on the police team, while another allegedly attacked Inspector Mallesh with a screwdriver.
Kiran reportedly attempted to escape by jumping from the fourth floor during the operation. He suffered fractures to both legs and was subsequently taken into custody.
The EAGLE Force is continuing its investigation to identify other people linked to the alleged drug network and trace the source and distribution chain.
