Hyderabad: HYDRAA on Thursday fenced a park site in Arjun Reddy Colony, Chandanagar, providing relief to residents who had been fighting alleged encroachment attempts for decades.
The park is located in Survey No. 123 of Chandanagar in Serilingampally mandal of Rangareddy district.
The 3.24-acre layout comprising 41 plots was developed with the approval of the erstwhile HUDA in 1995. Around 400 square yards of the layout was earmarked for a park.
Residents had repeatedly opposed attempts by individuals claiming ownership of the land to occupy the open space. They also approached the Telangana High Court seeking protection for the park and internal roads.
In 2022, the High Court directed the GHMC to protect the park and internal roads. However, the absence of a boundary wall left the site vulnerable to further encroachment attempts.

Residents said JCB machines were brought to the site on several occasions to level the land. However, locals intervened and stopped the work.
The residents later approached HYDRAA and sought protection for the disputed open space.
Following their request, HYDRAA fenced the park site on Thursday and installed signboards identifying the land as park property.
The move was welcomed by local residents, who said it marked a positive development in their long-running effort to protect the open space.
The fencing is expected to provide greater protection to the park and help prevent further attempts to encroach upon the site.
