EC To Hold Polling In Nizamabad With 25,000 EVMs: Umesh Sinha

Hyderabad, April 2 (Maxim News): Election Commission of India taken a decision to hold polling by using EVMs instead of ballot papers in Nizamabad Parliamentary segment wherein 185 members were in poll fray. As many as 12 EVM ballot units will be used for each polling station in Nizamabad segment with 1,788 polling stations being set up, he said. So far, the EC has been using four ballot units used and now it has taken a decision to use adequate number of EVMs for the purpose. From Wednesday, the Election officials will examine the EVMs and machinery being used for the polls. A team of EC comprising Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha and Sudip Jain have discussed with CEO Rajat Kumar, Collectors of Nizamabad and Jagitial on the smooth conduct of the polls.

Speaking to mediapersons at the Secretariat here today along with Sudip Jain, CEO Rajat Kumar, Umesh Sinha said the EC was prepared to hold the polls in a free and fair manner. “We have held discussions with BEL, ECIL engineers for using adequate number of EVMs and machinery, Umesh Sinha said. For the first time, EVM was produced in Hyderabad and it will be a history to conduct polls in Nizamabad on April 11 along with other segments in the State for using a large number of candidates. As many as 600 engineers will work for Nizamabad poll segment till the end of the polls, he informed. With 2,000 control units, Nizamabad segment requires 25,000 EVM ballot units in 1,788 polling stations each with 12 units. The voters have to exercise their franchise during the polls without any inconvenience as the Election Commission made all the arrangements. (Maxim News)
