Hyderabad, March 24: The ECI coordination meeting brought together top officials from poll bound states and neighbouring regions to strengthen election preparedness. The Election Commission of India held the high level meeting to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.

Senior administrative and law enforcement officials attended the ECI coordination meeting. These included Chief Secretaries, Directors General of Police, Principal Secretaries of Home and Excise, State Focal Points for Seizure Tracking, and State Police Nodal Officers. The meeting aimed to improve coordination and plug intelligence gaps.

Meanwhile, the Commission also held discussions with the Multi Departmental Committee on Election Intelligence. These talks focused on curbing illegal activities that could influence voters. Authorities discussed issues such as the movement of unaccounted cash, liquor, and drugs during elections.

The ECI coordination meeting stressed the need for real time information sharing between states. It also highlighted the importance of coordinated border checks and stronger surveillance. Therefore, officials were asked to ensure strict monitoring to prevent electoral malpractices.

The Commission reiterated its zero tolerance approach toward violations. It said that seamless coordination between neighbouring states is necessary. This would help control cross border movement of goods and people and maintain law and order during polling.

As per the schedule, polling in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry will take place on April 9. Tamil Nadu will go to polls on April 23. West Bengal will have a two phase election on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes is set for May 4.

ECI Coordination Meeting Held For Poll Preparedness

Earlier, the Commission conducted an online review and training session with officials in West Bengal. These included District Election Officers, Superintendents of Police, and Commissioners of Police. The session aimed to assess preparedness and reinforce guidelines.

In addition, the ECI removed 73 Returning Officers in West Bengal ahead of the elections. This step was taken as part of its efforts to ensure smooth and transparent polling.
