Electricity Charges to Reduce in AP , Govt Focuses on Power Reforms

Amaravati/Hyderabad, Dec. 31 (Maxim News) : Andhra Pradesh electricity consumers received positive news as the coalition government announced a clear focus on reducing electricity charges in the coming years instead of increasing tariffs.

The state government stated that from the New Year, its priority would remain tariff reduction. It recalled that true down charges were implemented during 2025. It also announced efforts to further reduce electricity charges in 2026, offering relief to domestic consumers.

Power Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the government is investing heavily to strengthen power generation and supply systems across Andhra Pradesh. He confirmed that tariff rationalisation remains a key policy objective.

Andhra Pradesh electricity charges reduction plan outlined

Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the state is spending nearly Rs 6,000 crore on electricity generation. He added that the government aims to ensure quality power supply across urban and rural areas. Therefore, large funds are being allocated for new substations and transmission infrastructure.

He further stated that new substations will be constructed based on demand growth. At the same time, new power lines will be laid to improve reliability. He noted that 2025 became a landmark year as electricity charges were reduced through true down adjustments.

Looking ahead, the minister said the government is working toward significant reductions in Andhra Pradesh electricity charges in 2026. Additionally, he said the coalition government under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is prioritising green energy development.

The state is focusing on solar, wind, battery storage, and pumped storage projects. As a result, the government is actively attracting investments in renewable energy. The minister expressed confidence that the power sector will grow rapidly with renewed momentum in the New Year. (Maxim News)
