Police identified the accused as Mohammed Salman, 26, a Rapido driver from Pahadishareef, and Azan Tauqeel Khan, 19, a student from Malakpet.

According to investigators, the duo targeted people visiting ATM cash deposit machines to deposit money.

Police said the accused approached innocent customers at ATM centres and requested cash. In return, they promised to transfer the same amount instantly through GPay or UPI.

After gaining trust, they took the victim’s mobile number and entered payment details. However, instead of sending money, they generated a fake success screen and showed it to victims. They then collected cash and fled the spot.

The latest case came to light after a complaint from Aditya Agarwal on April 13. He told police that he went to the SBI ATM beside Taj Mahal Hotel to deposit Rs 20,000.
