Farmers told to cultivate profitable crops
Warangal, May 17 (Maxim News): Minister for Agriculture Singireddy Niranjan Reddy stressed the importance of cultivating commercial and horticulture crops in Telangana and appealed to farmers to focus on them for earning the profitable returns.
Speaking at a programme on alternative crops in the rainy season organised by the agriculture department at Kodem Function Hall in Warangal city on Tuesday, the agriculture minister said that the commercial crops like oil palm, cotton and pulses and horticulture crops like mango, guava, lemon, orange and banana are good demand in the national and international markets and the farmers who cultivated those crops are getting good returns and added that there is a decent income on the cultivation of flowers and vegetables.
Niranjan Reddy urged that the farmers should focus on the profitable crops rather than the cultivation of traditional crops and should take the support of agriculture department in this regard.
Many counties that are having a very small geographically and are limited resources, are showing tremendous progress in agriculture sector by using the technology and by changing the crops as per the demand of international market. India has about 40 crore acres of cultivation land, but it is unable to compete with small countries in agriculture sector, he lamented.
Niranjan Reddy said that the area of cultivation land has increased tremendously in Telangana since the formation of State and water is available abundantly across the State due to the construction of Kaleshwaram project and the rival of village tanks under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
He appealed to farmers to focus on the profitable crops for earning the good amount of money and they should take the help of agriculture department which is always ready to help them.
