First Ebola Case In India? Uganda Woman Isolated In Bengaluru

Bengaluru/Hyderabad, May 27 (Maxim News) The rapid spread of Ebola virus in African countries has raised concerns around the world. In this context, a 28-year-old Ugandan woman has developed symptoms of Ebola in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka. The woman had arrived at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru from Uganda via Ahmedabad on the 23rd of this month. While the authorities are conducting special screening at airports for passengers coming from Ebola-affected countries, the airport medical staff detected mild symptoms like back pain and extreme fatigue in the woman.

As a precautionary measure, the authorities immediately shifted her to the Government Infectious Diseases Hospital in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, and placed her in isolation. Her condition is stable and she is under constant surveillance, said Karnataka Health Department Principal Secretary Ritwik Ranjanpande. However, he said it is not yet clear whether the symptoms she has are definitely related to Ebola. The woman’s blood samples collected for diagnosis have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune, and the results of these tests will be out in the next two days.

Responding to the incident, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare clarified that there are currently no cases of Ebola virus in India. As the spread of Ebola virus has intensified in some parts of Africa, the Indian government has assured in a statement that the situation there and the movement of international passengers are being closely monitored and that people need not worry. The center revealed that the surveillance and screening process has been further strengthened at major airports in the country.

On the other hand, Russia has made a key announcement at a time when the world is on alert over the spread of Ebola in Africa. Russian Health Minister Murashko revealed that their scientists have successfully discovered a new vaccine that protects against the ‘Bundibugyo Ebola’ strain, one of the types of Ebola. The Russian Embassy in South Africa officially announced this through the social media X (X). Experts believe that this new vaccine will greatly contribute to the control of Ebola in African countries. (Maxim News)
