Sensation In POCSO Case: Bandi Bhagirath In Police Custody

Hyderabad, May 27 (Maxim News):  A key step forward has been taken in the investigation of the POCSO case registered against Bandi Bhagirath, which created a sensation across the state. The Medchal/Malkajgiri POCSO Special Court has issued orders allowing three days of police custody to interrogate the accused who is on remand in this case. Bhagirath, who was arrested by the Pet Basheerabad police on the night of May 16 and is currently in the Cherlapalli Central Jail, will soon be taken into custody by the police. The court took this final decision, agreeing with the police’s argument that custody is necessary to collect more key evidence in this case.

The controversy came to light after the victim’s family members complained that he had not only sexually abused the minor girl but also threatened to share her private photos on social media. Considering the seriousness of the case, the police have registered a case against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and stringent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police have already recorded a confidential statement of about 40 minutes from the victim and her parents before the Medchal District Court Magistrate.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will focus mainly on collecting digital evidence during the three-day police custody hearing. The police will probe the allegations that the accused’s mobile phones, WhatsApp chats and call data were deleted. They will also seek the help of forensic experts to analyse electronic evidence related to social media conversations allegedly between the victim and the accused. It is expected that more credible facts in the case will emerge through this hearing.

On the other hand, the case is generating political heat with contradictory arguments from both sides. The victim’s mother alleges that they belong to an ordinary middle-class family, that they came forward bravely for justice, and that they were subjected to severe pressure and threats. However, the accused’s side has completely denied these allegations. The other side has blackmailed them by demanding a huge amount of Rs. 5 crores, and this false case was filed because they did not give in to it, Bhagirath’s lawyers claim that they have already filed a counter-complaint in Karimnagar on this.
