Flamingo Festival: Sri City Offers Collaboration for Biodiversity and Ecotourism

Sri City has emerged as a key venue for the Flamingo Festival, which began on Saturday, by hosting a series of influential events and symposiums focused on biodiversity, sustainability, and ecotourism. The festival, which celebrates the migratory flamingos and the region’s rich natural heritage, has drawn attention to the vital importance of conservation efforts. At the exhibition grounds in Sullurupeta, a special stall highlighting Sri City’s strides in industrial development across diverse manufacturing sectors was inaugurated by the Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography, Kandula Durgesh.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) conclave

A key feature of Sri City’s participation in the festival was the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) conclave, which emphasized the pivotal role of businesses in environmental conservation and community involvement. The conclave facilitated meaningful discussions on how corporate strategies can align with sustainability goals and contribute to the preservation of biodiversity.

It’s Significance

Dr. Venkateswar, District Collector, highlighted Sri City’s active role in the Flamingo Festival as a testament to its commitment to environmental sustainability. He noted the importance of Pulicat Lake and Nelapattu in maintaining the region’s unique biodiversity and urged industries and local communities to collaborate in the protection of these valuable natural habitats, fostering a balanced relationship with nature.

C Selvam, the Conservator of Forests, echoed the importance of CSR efforts that harmonize business objectives with environmental protection. Dr. Kishor Rithe, Director of the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), also participated in the event via a virtual presentation, urging corporations to strengthen partnerships to conserve Pulicat Lake and its vital migratory bird habitats. He called for increased corporate involvement in supporting BNHS’s conservation initiatives.
