Flood Warning Continues At Osman Sagar As Heavy Rains Raise Water Levels In Twin Reservoirs
Hyderabad, Aug 21 (Maxim News) A flood warning issued for Osman Sagar reservoir remained in effect for the second consecutive day on Thursday, due to persistent heavy rainfall in the upstream areas.
The HMWSSB has already advised residents in the surrounding areas and along the Musi River to stay alert and follow safety instructions to prevent casualties and property damage. The heavy downpours have led to rising water levels, increasing the risk of inundation in low-lying areas.
“The continuous rainfalls have elevated the water levels significantly necessitating the extension of the flood warning,” a senior HMWSSB official told.
Currently, the water board is releasing 226 cusecs of outflows by lifting the two floodgates at 1-foot height in Osman Sagar. Meanwhile, 1,017 cusecs of surplus water through one floodgate of the Himayat Sagar reservoir is also being released.
