Formula E Scam: ACB Summons Arvind Kumar Again
Formula E Scam | Hyderabad, July 3: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has intensified its investigation into the alleged irregularities surrounding the 2023 Formula E car race held in Hyderabad.
Senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar has been summoned for questioning on Thursday as part of the ongoing probe.
Arvind Kumar, who served as the Commissioner of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) at the time of the event, was previously questioned by the ACB in January. His latest appearance was delayed due to his foreign tour, but with his return, the agency has decided to re-examine him.
Formula E Scam | Focus on Rs 54.88 Crore Fund Release
The ACB has filed a case alleging that the state exchequer suffered a loss of Rs 54.88 crore due to unauthorized payments made to a foreign firm after the Formula E Operations (FEO) company withdrew from the race. The payments were reportedly made despite the company’s withdrawal and without obtaining mandatory clearance from the Finance Department.
According to sources, the state government’s internal probe revealed that an MoU was signed committing Rs 600 crore for organizing races over a three-year period, even though the Model Code of Conduct was in effect at the time. This has raised serious legal and ethical concerns.
Conflicting Statements from Key Figures:
Arvind Kumar has already submitted a written explanation stating that the payments were made under the instructions of then Municipal Administration Minister K. T. Rama Rao (KTR). However, during his questioning last month, KTR reportedly claimed that the responsibility for the payments lay with the officials.
With conflicting versions coming to light, the ACB aims to clarify key discrepancies and establish accountability.
Arvind Kumar is likely to face detailed questioning regarding the financial decisions, approval process, and the exact role played by different departments and individuals.
