Hyderabad, August 4: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed Dabur India Ltd. to stop selling certain food products carrying “100%” claims, stating that such labelling violates food advertising and claims regulations.
FSSAI Raises Objection to Product Labels
According to the food safety regulator, labels such as:
- 100% Pure
- 100% Natural
- 100% Purity Guaranteed
- 100% Organic
- 100% Tender Coconut Water
are not permitted under the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018, as they may mislead consumers.
The regulator said the claims were found on products including:
- Honey
- Cow ghee
- Virgin coconut oil
- Sesame oil
- Apple cider vinegar
- Coconut water
- Coconut milk
FSSAI stated that using absolute claims such as “100%” without meeting the prescribed regulatory requirements is against the law and may create a false impression among consumers regarding the quality or composition of food products.
The authority said the company has been instructed to ensure compliance with the applicable food safety and advertising regulations.
In its response, Dabur India Ltd. said it is examining the notice issued by FSSAI and will take appropriate steps in accordance with the regulatory requirements.
