Hyderabad, May 21 (Maxim News): Former Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi on Wednesday officially assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Women.
Her appointment is expected to strengthen initiatives related to women’s rights, safety, welfare and empowerment across Telangana.
After taking charge, Gadwal Vijayalaxmi said the Commission would work actively to address issues affecting women and ensure faster support for victims facing harassment, violence and discrimination.
Focus On Women Safety And Empowerment
The newly appointed Chairperson stated that protecting women’s rights and improving awareness about legal protections would be among the Commission’s priorities.
She also stressed the need for coordinated efforts between government departments, police and social organisations to improve women’s safety and welfare mechanisms in the State.
Gadwal Vijayalaxmi previously served as Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and is known for her involvement in civic administration and public welfare programmes.
Her appointment comes at a time when the State government is focusing on strengthening institutional support systems for women through welfare schemes, legal aid and grievance redressal mechanisms.
Officials and public representatives congratulated Gadwal Vijayalaxmi after she assumed office and expressed confidence that her experience in public administration would help the Commission function more effectively.
Commission Expected To Strengthen Outreach
The Telangana State Commission for Women plays a key role in addressing complaints related to women’s safety, domestic violence, workplace harassment and other gender-related issues.
The Commission also works with various departments to recommend policy measures aimed at improving the social and economic status of women in the State.
