Gang Busted for Illegal PDS Rice Transport: 28 Quintals Seized

Hyderabad, Aug 6 (Maxim News): In a significant crackdown on illegal Public Distribution System (PDS) rice trafficking, the Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone, in collaboration with Civil Supply officials and Bahadurpura police, raided a ration shop and apprehended three individuals involved in the illicit operation.

Arrests and Seizures

The raid took place at “Fair Price Ration Shop No.190, NR No.931” located in Hassan Nagar, Bahadurpura. The arrested suspects include:

  1. Mir Mehraj Ali Hashmi (36 years), Ration Shop Worker from Misrigunj
  2. Syed Hamed (39 years), Coffee Day Business Owner from Hasan Nagar
  3. Syed Shaki Hashmi (34 years), Ration Shop Worker and Driver from Hasan Nagar

Additionally, two other suspects, Syed Ataur Rahman and Mateen, are currently absconding.

During the operation, authorities seized 28 quintals of PDS rice, valued at Rs. 72,774, and an Ashok Leyland vehicle used for transporting the stolen rice.

Details of the Operation

Mir Mehraj Ali Hashmi was operating the Fair Price Ration Shop No.190 on behalf of his uncle, Syed Ataur Rahman, the licensed holder. Hashmi, in collusion with PDS rice dealer Syed Hamed, devised a scheme to divert PDS rice from the shop to sell it at higher prices through the main transporter Mateen, thereby making illegal profits.

On August 5, 2024, acting on credible information, the Commissioner’s Task Force South Zone, along with Civil Supply officials and Bahadurpura Police, conducted the raid. They apprehended Mir Mehraj Ali Hashmi, Syed Hamed, and Syed Shaki Hashmi while Hamed was collecting PDS rice in his vehicle (Br. No. TS 12 UD 6973 Ashok Leyland) from the ration shop.

Follow-Up and Investigation

The seized materials and arrested individuals were handed over to the SHO of Bahadurpura Police Station and the Assistant Civil Supplies Officer Circle-III, Saroor Nagar, Ranga Reddy District for further investigation.

The arrests were made under the supervision of A. Srinivas Rao, Additional DCP of the Commissioner’s Task Force, Hyderabad, with efforts led by S. Raghavendra, Inspector of Police, along with SIs N. Naveen, K. Narsimulu, and G. Anjaneyulu, and supported by the Bahadurpura Police and Civil Supply officials. (Maxim News)
