GHMC Celebrates World Malaria Day

Hyderabad, April 25 (Maxim News): World Malaria Day is celebrated in all the circles and wards of GHMC in a big manner “End Malaria for Good“ as a World Malaria theme for 2017.

A state level World Malaria Day celebration is organized jointly by GHMC and Health Department in Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad. GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, Special Secretary to Government Health Medical & Family Welfare Rajeshwar Tiwari, GHMC Central Zone Commissioner, Hari Chandana, Director of Public Health & Family Welfare Dr. Y. Lalitha Kumari, GHMC Entomology staff, Health Department Staff, Yashoda nursing students are participated.

Special Secretary to Government Health Medical & Family Welfare Rajeshwar Tiwari, addressed the gathering that, malaria is a life threatening disease, millions of people are infecting with malaria across the world every year and lakhs of people are dying. As target given by the central Government to eliminate malaria from India by 2030. We need to work out for that, to achieve the target to make Telangana State free of malaria.

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, addressed that mosquitoes will grow only in stagnated water either fresh or dirty water. Dengue, Malaria mosquitoes will grow only in fresh water, specially dengue mosquitoes grow in artificial domestic, peri-domestic containers. Nuisance mosquitoes are growing in tanks, lakes, nalas, because of sewerage water and water hyacinth.

Creating awareness among, students, households, servant made on prevention of mosquito breeding specially observation of “Friday is Dry Day”, If we allow one mosquito to grow the single mosquito and its generation can produce more than human population in the world in one year. The message should reach to each person, family & community, so that everybody should take mosquito growth preventive steps.

GHMC has taken up large scale IEC activities during last year, in addition to regular activities. Over2500 schools were sprayed, in 1942 schools awareness programmes were conducted and 64 sensitizing meeting conducted for SHG groups, 49 awareness programmes conducted to Residential Welfare Associations. The awareness programmes will be increased in 2017 covering all educational institutions in coordination with education department, slums & SHGs in coordination with UCD Wing, Offices & RWAs.

Over the last decade GHMC has made major progress in the fight against malaria, and the cases have been reduced from 239 in 2007 to 124 in 2016.

The Commissioner, GHMC emphasised that a convergent effort is needed between health department, GHMC, Police, HMWS&SB to bring down the incidence of malaria further and to reduce mosquitoes densities to achieve the goal malaria free Hyderabad before 2030 of National target.

At circle and ward level, Rallies, Sensitizing meetings, Manavaharams are organized by the Dy. Commissioners, Sr. Entomologists & Asst. Entomologists involving SHG Groups, Students, RWAs, Public representatives.

Thalasani Srinivas Yadav, Minister for Animal Husbandry & Cinematography, Govt. of Telangana State has launched of World Malaria Day rally in B.K. Guda and Venu Gopal Chary garu, Telangana State Representative at Delhi and Baba Fasiuddin, Dy, Mayor GHMC are participated in World Malaria Day celebrations in Uppal, M.L.A.s, Municipal Standing Committee Members and Corporators are participated in their respective wards and constituencies.
