GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan Offer Special Prayers at Historic Lal Darwaza Mahankali Temple

Hyderabad, July 11, 2025 — Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R.V. Karnan paid a special visit to the iconic Simha Vahini Mahankali Temple at Lal Darwaja in the Old City on Friday morning, where he performed special pujas and sought the blessings of the Goddess.

The temple priests welcomed the Commissioner with Poorna Kumbham, following traditional rituals, and facilitated his participation in the puja ceremonies. The visit came ahead of the upcoming Bonalu festival, a major event in Hyderabad, especially in the Old City.

Focus on Temple Development and Civic Facilities

Following the religious ceremony, Commissioner Karnan conducted a review meeting with the temple committee, focusing on:

  • Enhancing infrastructure and amenities for devotees
  • Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the temple surroundings
  • Regulating traffic flow during peak hours and festivals

He instructed GHMC officials to ensure smooth movement of devotees, especially during the upcoming Bonalu festivities, and to coordinate with traffic police for effective crowd and vehicle management.

Speaking to the media, Karnan expressed his deep spiritual satisfaction after visiting the historic temple.

“I had long wished to visit the Lal Darwaja Mahankali Temple. Today’s darshan gave me immense peace. This temple is not just a spiritual center but a significant cultural and historical landmark of Hyderabad. I pray for the well-being and prosperity of every citizen in the city,” he said.

The Lal Darwaja Mahankali Temple holds a special place in Hyderabad’s heritage and attracts thousands of devotees during the Bonalu season, which celebrates the Mother Goddess with traditional fervor and devotion.
