GHMC Infrastructure Growth Marks Major Gains In 2025
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported major achievements in infrastructure growth and civic reforms during 2025, highlighting expansion, sanitation success, and improvements in governance.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan while addressing a media meet here today said the city has grown significantly after the merger of 27 Urban Local Bodies, increasing the total to 300 wards, spread across 60 circles and 12 zones. The expansion has widened the administrative scope of the civic body while placing greater responsibility on urban governance.
In sanitation and cleanliness, GHMC secured the 6th rank in the national Swachh Survekshan rankings, released in July 2025. The city also achieved a 7 star Garbage Free City rating along with Water+ ODF re certification. These recognitions reflect sustained efforts in waste management, sanitation infrastructure, and public awareness.
To strengthen waste processing, GHMC commissioned a 24 MW Waste to Energy plant and a 1000 tonnes per day manufacturing plant at Jawaharnagar. With these additions, the city now has a total waste processing capacity of 10,000 TPD, helping reduce landfill dependency and improve sustainable waste disposal.
GHMC | Engineering works and digital governance expansion
During the 2025 26 financial year, GHMC undertook 9,993 engineering works with an estimated cost of ₹2,706.32 crore. According to official data, 4,872 works worth ₹1,023.53 crore have already been completed. Meanwhile, the Strategic Nala Development Programme Phase II initiated 40 works to strengthen storm water drainage and reduce flooding risks.
Road safety also received focused attention. GHMC teams rectified 23,091 potholes across the city and completed multiple flyover projects to ease traffic congestion. These measures aimed to improve daily commuting and road safety for residents.
Digital governance advanced with GIS mapping of 650 square kilometers using drone surveys. This exercise covered 14 lakh properties and identified 1.02 lakh new or under assessed holdings. As a result, revenue collection increased by 8 percent, reaching ₹1,512.54 crore between April and December 2025.
Public health indicators also showed improvement. Dengue cases declined by 30 percent compared to the previous year, indicating better preventive measures and monitoring.
GHMC officials said these combined efforts demonstrate sustained GHMC infrastructure growth, with a focus on sanitation, engineering efficiency, digital tools, and public health outcomes across Hyderabad. (Maxim News)
