- Large scale cleaning across roads flyovers and public spaces continues
The GHMC sanitation drive has intensified across Greater Hyderabad as the civic body steps up efforts to improve cleanliness and public hygiene. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has launched a special drive to transform the city into a clean and healthier urban space. GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan has directed Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and engineers from the Solid Waste Management wing to ensure effective and time bound execution of sanitation programmes.
On the third consecutive day of the GHMC sanitation drive, officials carried out large scale cleaning operations across the city. Sanitation teams focused on roadsides, dividers, central medians, and kerbs in different areas of Greater Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Commissioner Karnan conducted field level inspections in Adibatla, Kongara Kalan, and Bongulur areas under the Shamshabad zone. During these visits, he reviewed both the progress and quality of the sanitation works being carried out.
Phased sanitation plan covers FOBs and flyovers
The sanitation drive follows a phased and systematic approach. On the first day, GHMC teams cleaned Foot Over Bridges across the city. Then, on the second day, they focused on the cleaning of flyovers. According to officials, this structured plan helps ensure better coverage and proper use of resources. The ongoing third day operations extended the drive to major roads and public spaces, therefore widening the impact of the campaign.
While addressing officials during the inspections, Commissioner Karnan stressed the need for stronger coordination among Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and SWM engineers. He said focused efforts were essential to further raise sanitation standards across Greater Hyderabad. He also instructed officials to strictly follow schedules for upcoming sanitation activities to maintain consistency and effectiveness.
Focus on lakes nalas and waste removal
Later, the Commissioner outlined key areas that require continued attention under the GHMC sanitation drive. These include the cleaning of lakes and nalas, maintenance of footpaths and parks, removal of construction and demolition waste, and clearance of garbage near transformers and electric poles. He underlined that these steps are necessary to prevent repeated accumulation of waste and ensure safer public spaces.
The Commissioner also said sustained monitoring and proactive field level action are vital to achieve visible and long term improvements in urban cleanliness. Zonal Commissioner Chandrakala and other senior officials accompanied him during the inspection. GHMC officials stated that the sanitation drive will continue in the coming days with close supervision to ensure lasting results.
