Graduate MLC Voter Registration | Hyderabad, Oct 26: Graduate voters have shown a limited response to voter registration for Telangana’s two graduate MLC constituencies. A total of 5,23,758 applications had been received by Saturday, nearly a month after the process began. The notification for fresh registration was issued on September 28, and the deadline for Form 18 applications is November 6.
The Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad constituency received 2,29,937 applications. The Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituency received 2,93,821. In the 2021 elections, the two constituencies had 5,31,268 and 5,05,565 registered voters respectively.
With registrations short of expectations, major political parties have turned to special enrolment camps. They fear that a lower voter count could influence the outcome, and they want to enrol as many eligible graduates as possible before the deadline. Associations of employees, teachers, outsourced personnel and contract workers have also organised camps.
Graduate MLC Voter Registration: few applications cleared so far
Scrutiny of Form 18 applications in both constituencies is still at the booth-level officer (BLO) stage. BLOs are busy with other duties, including notices and inquiries, which has slowed the process. More than 80 per cent of the applications were submitted online. Each application must be scrutinised at the BLO, assistant electoral registration officer (AERO) and electoral registration officer (ERO) levels before the applicant enters the final roll.
In the Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad constituency, 4,686 of the 2,29,937 applications have been approved. In the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituency, 21,390 of the 2,93,821 have been approved. The rest are at various stages of scrutiny.
