Great Demand For Admissions Into Residential Schools, 2,39749 Studying: Eshwar

Hyderabad, Sept.14 (Maxim News): Minister for Scheduled Castes Development & Minority Welfare Koppula Eshwar today informed the Assembly that the government has opened 602 residential schools in the last five years after formation of new State.

Replying to questions raised by members during question hour, Eshwar said with an aim to impart quality education to the poor students of SCs, STs, BCs and Minorities, the State government had decided to set up Residential Schools for their benefit across the State.

The Minister said so far 602 Residential schools have been launched, of them, 104 are meant for SCs, 52 for STs, 204 for Minorities and 242 for BCs. A total of 2,39,749 students were studying in these schools. He also informed that 11,785 teachers were appointed for the residential schools. The State government has allocated Rs 2,243 crore to impart better education to students on par with private and corporate schools, he said.

Stating that there was high demand for admission into residential schools, Eshwar said over 1.35 lakh students applied for admissions into Class V and admissions were being given to those who passed in the entrance examination.

There was also increase in pass percentage in Class X examinations in the residential schools, he said, adding that the students were being fed with fine rice. (Maxim News)
