Green Building Leaders Felicitated With IGBC Awards
Hyderabad, Oct.31 (Maxim News): On the concluding day of the 3-day 18th edition of IGBC Green Building Congress 2020, the sincere and persistent efforts of both government and private institutions in advancing the green buildings movement in India were recognized with prestigious awards. The awards were given virtually in the presence of Jamshyd N Godrej, Past President, CII, and Chairman, CII-Godrej Green Business Centre, and Shrikant Bapat, Member, IGBC Executive Board, and Country GM & MD, Johnson Controls India.
Godrej said, “We revere the Mother Earth. Paradigm shifts can be seen unfolding in the built environment of the future:Fuel cells would replace fossil fuels; electric vehicles will propel into common usage faster than we think today; new parking solutions will emerge; water will be seen with greater reverence than ever before; Net Zero Energy and Net Zero Water buildings will assume greater importance; and new solutions of handling municipal waste will emerge,”.
Awards were given to companies, industry leaders, government institutions and many building typologies under three main categories: IGBC Fellowship Awards, IGBC Performance Challenge Awards for Green Built Environment, and IGBC Green Champions Award.
This year’s jury nominated 18 industry experts for the prestigious IGBC Fellowship Awards 2020 (5th edition), and four distinguished leaders for “IGBC Senior Fellow Award” 2020. The recipients include B Santhanam, Chairman & Managing Director, Saint-Gobain India Private Ltd, Dr Mangu Singh, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Sanjay Mashruwala, Managing Director, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited. The IGBC Senior Fellows and Fellows were felicitated for their tireless efforts in advancing the cause of green buildings.
The 2nd edition of the IGBC Performance Challenge for Green Built Environment, supported by Johnson Controls India, received more than 150 entries, of which 91 projects were shortlisted, and 20 were awarded under nine categories. The projects include: State Bank Bhavan, Mumbai, RBI-Main Office Building, Bengaluru, and the RBI Staff Quarters, Osborne Road, Bengaluru. The Performance Challenge Awards by IGBC is a unique initiative to facilitate excellence in continuous performance of green buildings and built environment, by measuring and improving the green performance of buildings.
The Green Building Congress 2020 featured a 3-day virtual conference, with over 4,000 registered delegates, 80 eminent speakers, and a 30-day online Expo showcasing 150+ green products until 27 November 2020. The event was also marked by the launch of IGBC Green Healthcare Facilities Rating System, IGBC Rating System for Green Logistics Parks and Warehouses, and IGBC Net Zero Water Rating System.
The World Green Building Council was a supporting partner of the 18th IGBC Green Building Congress. A total of13 Green Building Councils from across the globe also supported and participated in the event. These Councils are from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, South Africa and United Arab Emirates.
Going forward, IGBC has set distinct goals for 2022 (India@75), which will augur well for the nation: to achieve 10 Billion sq ft of Green Footprint and emerge as the global leader in green buildings, to spread awareness on Net Zero Energy and Water, to complete the capacity building of more than 10,000 Green Building Accredited Professionals; to work closely with Central, State and local government bodies in greening affordable housing, cities and villages; and to collaborate with universities, colleges, and schools and design curriculum on green concepts for students.
