Hyderabad, Aug 10 (Maxim News) : Hyderabad police busted a Gupta Nidhulu cheating racket that allegedly targeted people with false promises of hidden treasure beneath houses.
The Commissioner’s Task Force, Shamshabad Zone, worked with Rajendra Nagar Police to crack the racket. Police arrested four accused persons in connection with the case.
The arrested persons include Mohd Munawar alias Munna, Syed Ali Ashraf, Mohd Haji and Mohd Salman. Police also seized two cars, an auto rickshaw, two motorcycles and four mobile phones.
The operation also led to the seizure of 25 duplicate gold coins, six kilograms of coal, four kilograms of soil and pooja materials.
Police registered a case in Crime No. 916/2026 under Sections 318(4), 351(2), 61(2) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Rajendra Nagar Police Station.
According to police, the accused allegedly cheated victims by claiming that they could locate underground treasure. They reportedly convinced people that valuable gold and other items lay buried beneath residential properties.
Police said Munawar allegedly planned the fraud after finding his income from denting and painting work insufficient for his family expenses. He allegedly brought his associates into the scheme and explained the method used to deceive victims.
Gupta Nidhulu fraud targeted 11 victims
The accused allegedly approached gullible people and claimed to possess special knowledge about hidden treasure. They then allegedly dug up portions of the property as part of the deception.
After digging, the accused allegedly planted a sack containing coal and duplicate gold coated coins. They reportedly told victims that the coal would eventually turn into gold.
The accused then allegedly left the location, claiming that the conversion process required additional time. Police said the group used this method to deceive victims and collect money.
Investigators have so far identified 11 alleged victims from different areas. Police said the total amount involved stands at around ₹1 crore.
Police also found that Munawar had previously faced a cheating case at Begum Bazar Police Station.
The authorities have warned the public against people claiming to possess information about hidden or underground treasure. Police said fraudsters may approach residents in villages, towns and urban areas with similar promises.
People have been advised not to hand over money or valuables to such persons. They should instead immediately inform the police if anyone makes suspicious claims about Gupta Nidhulu.
The arrests were carried out under the supervision of K. Ravi, Inspector of Police, along with Sub Inspectors K. Mansoor Ali, Narsing Rao and S. Seshu and other Task Force personnel.
Rajendra Nagar Police also assisted the Shamshabad Zone Task Force during the operation. The investigation into the case is continuing. (Maxim News)
