‘Half Girlfriend’ and ‘Hindi Medium’ perform well
Last week’s releases, Mohit Suri’s Half Girlfriend and Saket Chaudhary’s Hindi Medium have performed fairly well at the box office despite average reviews. The Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer garnered approximately Rs 30 crore on its first day. On the other hand, Irrfan Khan’s comedy drama, which earned a relatively paltry Rs 2.81 crore on Friday, attracted viewers over the weekend to close with a collection of Rs 12.56 crore.
Distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi tells mid-day, “The youth has always been a fan of Chetan Bhagat’s book [on which ‘Half Girlfriend’ is based]. He may be crucified for his literary sense, but his novels make for appropriate Hindi film adaptations. All but one of his previous books that have been made into films, have done well at the box office.”
Talking about Khan’s ‘Hindi Medium’, Rathi adds, “The positive word of mouth and the relevant subject has worked for the film. It has done well in multiplex and continues to attract viewers even today. The weekdays’ performance however will be the litmus test.”
