Handloom Expo & Knowledge Sharing Session Held at FTCCI

Hyderabad: The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) organized the Handloom Exhibition & Enlightenment Session on Friday at its premises at Federation House, Red Hills.

20 Weavers showcased their master crafts at the exhibition. An Enlightenment Session was organized by Industry, Academia & Weavers.

Dr Manoj Lanka, State Director of KVIC (The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament graced as chief guest.  

Speaking on the occasion he said Khadi is a booming Industry in India.  He highlighted various schemes of the Union Government such as PMEGP—Prime Minister’s Employment Generation program, Honey Mission, SFURTI(Scheme of Found for Regeneration), Gramodyog Vikas Yojana, etc.  

The turnover of Khadi and Village Industries Commission products has crossed Rs.1.34 lakh crores figure. In the last 9 financial years, there has been an unprecedented growth of 332% in the sale of indigenous Khadi products made by artisans in rural areas.

He called artisans to utilize the machinery and toolkits being provided to create as many employment opportunities as possible and contribute to the construction of a self-reliant India.

 KVIC executed several key programs under the ‘Gram Vikas Yojana for the welfare of the deprived artisans. He said that this scheme intended to uplift the artisans by providing skill training and free tools and machines. Informing that nearly 1500 artisans from Telangana

Mr M Venkatesh, State Enforcement Officer/Regional Deputy Director, Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Govt of Telangana said Telangana is a great hub for Textiles and Handloom products. Telangana Textiles and Apparel Policy has attracted great investments.  Because of this Welspun, one of the leading textile companies in India invested Rs 2000 crore in the state.

What this sector needs is marketing help and design intervention.  In the near future, all RTC Bus Stands in Telangana will have Handloom stalls.  All the government undertakings too will have a platform to sell handlooms.  

The event titled “Threads of Tradition & Freedom: A Celebration Week for Handlooms Heritage” was organized by FTCCI to educate consumers about the unique qualities and benefits of handloom products. It aimed to raise awareness about the sustainability, eco-friendliness, and superior quality of handmade textiles and articles, encouraging consumers to make informed choices.
