Hyderabad, Oct. 6: BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao criticised the Telangana government over the recovery of Rs 5,420.23 crore in electricity true-up charges from consumers.
The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) has approved recovery of the amount from non-agricultural consumers through electricity bills from November 2026.
Harish Rao said the move would increase the financial burden on consumers ahead of the Dussehra and Diwali festivals. He demanded that the additional charges be withdrawn.
Harish Rao Demands Withdrawal of Electricity Charges
The TGERC approved recovery of a total true-up amount of Rs 7,635.22 crore for 2022-23 and 2023-24. Of this, Rs 2,214.99 crore linked to agriculture will be recovered from the state government, while Rs 5,420.23 crore will be collected from other eligible consumers.
The recovery will begin at 30 paise per unit in the first month and 50 paise per unit in subsequent months. Harish Rao demanded that the government prevent any additional burden on consumers and withdraw the charges.
