- Harish Rao slams Congress on Arogyasri spending claims
- Harish Rao alleges mic cut in Assembly, raises concerns
Hyderabad, March 26: Harish Rao strongly criticised the Congress government over its claims on healthcare spending in the state. He also expressed anger over not being allowed to speak in the Legislative Assembly, alleging that his microphone was cut when he tried to present his views.
He said the government was preventing him from bringing facts before the House. Therefore, he accused the authorities of stopping his voice during the session. Meanwhile, his remarks focused on the government’s statements regarding Arogyasri expenditure.
Harish Rao said, “The government is boasting about the increase in Arogyasri expenditure. As of June 2, 2014, Rs. 32 crores were being spent per month on Arogyasri. By 2023, it had reached Rs. 68 crores. But.. the government is saying that it is spending Rs. 89 crores. This increase is natural in view of the increase in population and medical expenditure, and there is nothing new that the Congress has achieved in this. The expenditure on Arogyasri has increased significantly only after the Congress came to power. The current government is delaying the construction of hospitals that were sanctioned and work was undertaken during the previous government’s tenure. If BRS had come to power, all those hospitals would have been completed and the people would have received better services. With the intention of supporting the poor more through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, the previous BRS government increased its share of excise revenue and provided funds.”
He further alleged that the government was delaying hospital construction works that were sanctioned earlier. He said these projects had begun during the previous government’s tenure. However, he claimed that they are not being completed now.
Meanwhile, he said that if BRS had come to power, those hospitals would have been completed. He added that people would have received better services in that case. He also stated that the previous BRS government increased its share of excise revenue to support the poor through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The remarks come amid ongoing debates in the Assembly over healthcare spending and development. Therefore, the issue of Arogyasri and hospital infrastructure continues to remain a key point of political discussion in the state.
