- BRS alleges Rs 1,400 crore land grab in Vattinagulapally
- KT Rama Rao targets Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy
Hyderabad, March 30: Allegations of a massive land grab have triggered a political storm in Telangana. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has accused Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and his son Harsha Reddy of encroaching land worth around Rs 1,400 crore in Vattinagulapally.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao visited the site along with party legislators. He extended support to the affected family of Satish Shah and Pallavi Shah. He then addressed a joint media conference with them.
Rama Rao said the Shah family has owned the land since 1960. He stated that all records are intact. However, he alleged that the Minister and his son pressured the family to give up the land for development. When the family refused, they allegedly faced harassment from revenue officials. He claimed officials conducted a fraudulent survey despite orders from the Telangana High Court.
Meanwhile, threats were issued to acquire 27 acres under the guise of a survey. The family approached the High Court, which suspended the survey notice and later the Panchanama report. Subsequently, assistant director of revenue Srinivasulu, who conducted the survey, was arrested by the ACB in a disproportionate assets case worth Rs 100 crore.
Rama Rao further alleged that men linked to Raghava Constructions entered the land. He said they used unregistered JCBs to demolish a cowshed and a kilometre-long compound wall. He added that workers were beaten and the family was intimidated. “They were threatened with dire consequences and forced to stay guard overnight,” he said, adding that the family received death threats.
He also raised concerns over the transfer of police officer Habibullah Khan. The officer had registered an FIR in the case. According to Rama Rao, the transfer points to possible political interference.
Linking the issue to a broader pattern, he accused the government of misusing the Dharani land portal. “Since the Congress came to power, the lands in the prohibited list increased from 22 lakh acres to one crore acres. This was done to harass and coerce landowners into parting with property,” he remarked.
Rama Rao said the party would pursue the matter both politically and legally. He urged other victims to come forward. He also announced that a BRS delegation would meet the Governor seeking the Minister’s dismissal.
“Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy are safeguarding each other for their business interests. They are acting against the court orders, and encroaching on private lands,” he said.
Meanwhile, police deployed forces near Rama Rao’s residence amid rising tensions. BRS MLAs had gathered there before visiting the victims in Vattinagulapally.
