Delhi/Hyderabad, April 17 (Maxim News): Harivansh scored a hat-trick. He was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for the third time. The election process of Harivansh was formally completed when the leader of the House JP Nadda passed the resolution.
The appointment of the Deputy Chairman was done through a secret ballot. Five resolutions were passed to elect Harivansh. Harivansh’s second term as a Rajya Sabha member ended on April 9. With this, the post of Deputy Chairman became vacant.
According to Rule 7 of the Rajya Sabha Procedure, Chairman CP Radhakrishnan conducted the election for the Deputy Chairman. President Draupadi Murmu has nominated Harivansh to the Rajya Sabha. Prime Minister Modi and Leader of the Opposition Kharge congratulated Harivansh for winning the post of Deputy Chairman for the third time. This is the first time in the history of the Rajya Sabha that a nominated member has been elected as Deputy Chairman. Harivansh was previously a journalist. Kharge said that he hopes that the Deputy Chairman will allocate adequate time to the opposition. The Samajwadi Party and TMC walked out when the resolution on Harivansh’s election was passed.
